The Challenge: Keeping Up With What Racing Demands
Like many organisations, the live streaming journey started on YouTube. But horse racing is not a passive viewing experience. MTCJC’s traditional public-streaming workflow could introduce an end-to-end delay of approximately 15 to 30 seconds under race-day conditions. For general viewing, this was manageable, but it was not suitable for partners and audiences requiring near-real-time coverage.
“Latency was a persistent challenge. Our shortest races can be completed in under 55 seconds, so a delay of 15 to 30 seconds significantly affects the real-time viewing experience,” explained Viraj Pabaroo, Head of Broadcast Operations at MTCJC.
MTCJC is developing relationships with local and international distribution partners and exploring commercial models through which its live audiovisual content can reach authorised audiences. It needed a streaming foundation that could support those ambitions rather than limit them.
